RiseOfTheSon was blue printed by Coach Robby “robbyRise” Penalosa of Brooklyn, NY and Coach Vinny Cheah of Boston-MASAE to be an online magazine featuring the ASIAN YOUTH of the U.S. and Canada.
Young Asians around the world have grown a passion for the game, just like Coach robbyRise and Coach Vin, who met through networking their teams over the internet about 2 years back. With the foundation laid down for the website, a catchy name was gobbled up between the two to make the site more appealing to their purpose.
As one of the directors, Coach robbyRise elected to pay homage to the organization who helped him jump start his journey into the coaching field with RISEHOOPS. In honor of Risehoops, and the permission of the founders, Robby and Vinny included RiseHoops in the name of their online magazine. Many look to the east as the direction to where the sun rises. In correlation to recognizing the asian ethnicity, the idea of the Japanese national flag came into play with “Rise Of The Sun”. Switching the ’sun’ with SON recognizes the next generation. Thus, the name “RiseOfTheSon”.
Our Purpose: Over the past few decades, the Asian community in the U.S. and Canada grew to love the game of basketball. Leagues and tournaments were formed for different races who shared the love of the game. As the years went on, the kids of those first and second Asian generations who played began to take the stage. RiseOfTheSon wants to recognize the young standout ballers out there, tournament results and most importantly the organizations they represent. Between the Chinese Nationals, and the several Filipino Labor Day Nationals, as well as clinics, leagues and invitationals around the U.S. and Canada, RiseOfTheSon wants to showcase the organizations and delegations providing the opportunity for the young to showcase their talent. We will do our VERY BEST to make sure everyone gets a fair opportunity to be recognized. Officials for the website already cover the NABA, PIBNA and FBA Labor day tournaments (Filipino Nationals) as well as the NACBA Tournament (Chinese Nationals) on Memorial Day weekend. As we learn more about new organizations, we would be glad to post the information on our website. Hopefully, RiseOfTheSon will grow popular enough to host our OWN NATIONAL TOURNAMENT within the years to come. We are open to any suggestions, and would be glad to hear from all of you! Remember, THIS IS FOR THE KIDS!
