RiseOfTheSon 1.0 Archive

ROTS Illustrated Online Cover. Feature of back to back NABA Championship winning starting point guard, Penny Penalosa (North Jersey Juniors '09, SIPAG Juniors '10)

Prior to making his commitment to SIPAG in the summer of 2010, Penny Penalosa was debating between playing for JSAG-Jersey Shore, North Jersey PAABL and SIPAG-NYC. Penny ultimately chose SIPAG, where he joined fellow wingman and back to back NABA champ, Ranier  ’Rain Man’ Garcia, and won the Junior Division of NABA’10 Jersey Shore.

Breakout Season.

After pushing the undefeated NY-NJ Fil-Am Allstar team, NYCE to an overtime Championship game,  the Maryland Pistons fell short but earned the respect of many after the NY Rockit’s Asian Basketball classic tournament in the spring of 2010.

Most improved Delegations 2010:

RiseOfTheSon would like to feature two Labor Day weekend delegations that showed significant improvements over the past year in their organizations approach to developing the youth. Over Labor Day 2010, theWashingtonD.C.group of D.C.-FYBA as well as Maryland FABL both performed very well in their respective national tournaments and sowed vast improvement from 2009. Let’s start with the very proud Blue and White delegation of D.C.-FYBA.

In NABA Scarborough 2009, more than half their teams didn’t make it to the 2nd day. This year, for NABA Jersey Shore 2010, not only did more than half of their teams make it to the 2nd day, but they made it far into the Semi-finals, with their Tykes, Peewees, Bantam, Girls and Juvenile teams all falling one game short of making it to the championship. Prior to the NABA tournament, D.C.-FYBA is very active in AAU tournaments in their area, entering their youth teams in several leagues, and tournaments to not only prep their kids for the NABA tournament, but to develop their skills individually and together as a team. With the strong support of the player’s parents, a very dedicated coaching staff and headstrong officials, D.C.-FYBA is destined to be one of the premiere delegations on the east coast. Congrats to the mighty blue and white of D.C. for being one of 2010’s Most Improved Delegations. RiseOfTheSon will be looking forward to hearing more of your accomplishments.

The story of PIBNA Virginia 2010 was the sweep of the 11&U Tykes, 13&U Peewees, and 15&U Bantam divisions of Maryland FABL, winning all 3 divisions. With the Brill family as the tip of the arrow, leading the way for the FABL delegation in PIBNA,Marylandshowed their dominance of the youth divisions. Next year they will be looking to add a Juvenile team to help increase their chances of winning more as a delegation. Prior to the PIBNA tournament, FABL youth teams are seen in their area participating in leagues and tournaments. Some of their players come from the powerhouse Maryland Pistons. Players have been seen representing both Maryland FABL and the Pistons as they collab in several tournaments. Nonetheless, Labor Day weekend 2010 inVirginia Beachshowcased Maryland FABL’s potential to be a growing force to beat in PIBNA in the years to come. Congrats to Maryland FABL for their championships as well as being crowned one of 2010’s Most Improved Delegations.
